Winning Over Worry: a war of the wills

We listened to a podcast by a man who humbly and passionately shared wisdom from serving our country. He talked about the “ride in.” You know-all the guys, geared up, in the back of the aircraft- sleeping. What’s crazy is this particular mission they were confident was a one-way ticket. And yet they slept. Peacefully. Does anyone else feel small right now? I toss and turn in bed at night trying to calculate the unknown! Ever done that before? But do you know why he said they slept? “Because worrying about it wouldn’t change anything.” They were prepared. And could do nothing more until feet hit the ground. I admire this strength. And I’m challenged by it. What these very focused men understand is a Biblical principle, and a tough one to follow. (Matt 6:27).

Worry only wear us out, magnifies the fear, and disables us on the mission. So, how do we combat it? Like these men, we prepare- by casting our cares upon the Lord. Then we purpose to let it rest until our feet hit the ground. Because here’s the thing- God doesn’t give us grace to worry/wonder/connive in advance. He gives grace IN time of need. (Heb. 4:16)

Want to know the ending? Mission accomplished. What’s our mission? If we’re honest, we worry about things like will people disagree with me? Will I be comfortable? Our hearts whisper our mission: “MY kingdom come, MY will be done.” But if we get behind the single focus of our Savior- “Thy will be done”, we win! Every time. (1 Cor. 15:57) God will be glorified and it will be for our good. (Rom. 8:28) Are you facing a battle right now? Is it stealing your rest? Bring it to the throne of grace and declare “Thy will be done!” It’s there we find peace. Victory in what truly matters has already been claimed, our God wins. Now get some sleep.
