Our Identity in the Gospel

Free. Grace.

If you google the meaning of my first and middle name this is what comes up.

And honestly, I can’t think of any words I’d rather be defined by. Because free and grace are both words I can’t live up to, but live IN.

“Who the Son sets free, he is free indeed.”

John 8:36

Romans 3:24 “and all are justified freely by his grace through redemption that came by Jesus Christ.”

I never want to get over these words.

Have you ever googled the meaning of your name?

More importantly, have you ever thought about who you are IN Christ?

I love to read the names of God. A name tells us so much about a person. In the Bible, especially, names were used as descriptions and sometimes even spoke of something God would yet do. Names served a purpose. Did you know the Bible is full of names God has given us as recipients of His grace?

Here’s a few of them. Take some time to read the verses & let His Truth define your identity:

Chosen, 1 Peter 2:9

Redeemed, Ephesians 1:7

Loved, Jeremiah 31:3, John 3:16

Welcomed, Romans 15:7

Forgiven, Ephesians 4:32,

Heard, Jeremiah 33:3

Free, John 8:36

Sons of God, John 1:12

Accepted, Eph 1:6

Reconciled to God, Romans 5:10

Heirs of the kingdom, Romans 8:17

Righteous, Romans 4:5

Set Apart, 1 Peter 2:9

United with Christ, Col. 3:3

Citizen of the Kingdom of God, Phil. 3:3

Indwelt with the Holy Spirit, Romans 8:9

Adopted, Gal. 4:6

Justified, Romans 5:1

Regenerated, 2 Cor. 5:17

Living in light of these truths is living in the fullness of the gospel. As we delight in Who God is, Who He has made us and IS making us, we find endless reasons to declare praise to the glory of His grace.

What aspect of the gospel do you need to preach to yourself, today?

Will you spend some time today remembering the sacrifice Christ made to bring us to God (2 Peter 3:19) and worship Him with me for how that powerful act of love continues to transform our lives?
