Be Still

Today, I watch in wonder as tired 4 year olds with full tummies, a blanket and pillow lay scattered across the floor on mats, wiggling endlessly resisting the much needed sleep. My words echo across the dim room- “Be still.” . Some fight it, but others eventually give into slumber. Why would a child resist something that is for their own good? Why would a child of God resist His command: “Be still”? We busy ourselves building our own kingdoms where we place ourselves as the god- the dictator of our time, possessions, relationships, pursuits, successes. Thinking it’s up to us to measure up to the standards we ourselves set. And all the while, we fight the quiet, loving voice of the Holy Spirit whispering “Be still, and know that I am God.” Stop trying, stop being. God is God, you are not! Be still. And remember I AM. . Jesus says “Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. And there is abundant rest when we experience God alone is worthy of the throne. When we set aside our crushing crown of pride that forces us to strive and worry and exasperate ourselves in empty defeat. When we acknowledge it’s HIS Kingdom, His plan, His purpose in which we find our place. The place of quieting self and worshipping God. So as I say to these children, “be still,” I remember God speaks to me, saying “Be still.” Be still in your striving and KNOW...delight...believe..I am God. Rest in Me.
